The BlackLava // ‘My Quarantine’ Review

The BlackLava is an Italian band formed by four friends: Karlo on voice and guitar, Fra playing the guitar, Mark on bass and Diego on drums. Released in June “My Quarantine” combines some of the old 90s and 70s tunes, in my opinion they are a retro band with a cool modern kick! They are onto something great!

“My Quarantine” talks about the pandemic and how people are living through these trying times. The track is simple, with constant guitar strums and faint keys which ‘twinkle’ in some parts and then rise in others. The heavy drum along the bass bring us back to the grim reality we are all facing. Throughout the entire track the vocalist talks about how he wants to disappear and cannot comprehend if all that surrounds him is real or a nightmare. My favourite part comes in at 2:15, when the lyrics and vocals change and there is a glimmer of hope ‘no time, no love lost’.

The instruments and production are somewhat minimum in this track, yet I think that’s what makes the song so great. He band is truly unique in their sound and provide the listener with a much-needed calm during these uncertain times.
